ZONTA on TOUR      ZONTA WALK       DIAMOND RALLY

Zonta cycling team Area 05 – Leuven 2021

The roots of the Zonta Cycling Team lie with Griet De Prycker (Governor 2016-2018). In 2013 she sparked the idea to participate in the '1000 km for Kom op tegen kanker(KOTK)', a cycling event to raise funds for cancer research.

Given all our joy and enthusiasm when cycling for KOTK, Griet suggested we jump on our bike to the District Conference in 2015 to Metz. And so we did. It was the start of a true Zonta Cycling adventure.

Now we are in full preparation for Leuven 2021. Our team counts 39 cyclists and 8 supporters. A nice, sporty group of Zontians from 15 different clubs from area 05, atmosphere guaranteed!

As she has done all these years, Griet continues to inspire us. With Griets motto 'Focus on the sun', we continue to cycle and feel like one Zonta family that spreads the Zonta values and ensures visibility nationally and internationally.

We are also actively fundraising. In July, we will start selling 1,000 pairs of trendy, colourful socks printed with 'Focus on the sun'

The proceeds will go to Zonta International Foundation.

We bravely continue our training, the kick-off starts in Bruges on Tuesday Sep 28 and we arrive in Leuven on Friday Oct 1st, after 300 km on our bikes.

Leuven here we come!

Did your children go to school? OF COURSE

Do 12 year old girls in Madagascar attend school? PROBABLY NOT

Although for disadvantaged children, education can be their way out of poverty, they often don’t get the chance to go to school. Especially girls are often denied the right to an education. If they do get the chance to attend school, they often have to make a big effort to get there.  Some children have to walk 10km a day to get to school and back.

Do you want to help Zonta Club Waasland to create awareness about the right to education? Then participate in the ‘ZONTAWALK’ !

The virtual ‘ZONTAWALK’ will take place during the 10 days prior to the district conference, from September 19th until September 30. During these ZONTAWALK-days, we challenge all zontians to accompany a girl to school (10km a day). How many days will you be able to walk her to school? Please do invite your fellow-zontians to also join and walk together.

How to register:

Registration for this ZONTAWALK costs €10 and will be donated to the ‘Let us Learn Madagascar’ project. (http://www.zonta.org/Web/Programs/ISP/Let_Us_Learn_Madagascar_Home).

To register, please fill out this form https://forms.gle/6NFmTRDtAFaBPqYQ6 and pay the registration fee.

After registration, you will receive all info on how to join our strava-club (you will first have to sign in to a free strava-account*).

Follow us on  Facebook and Instagram.

The full amount, raised by this virtual walking challenge, will be donated to the ‘Let us Learn Madagascar’ project (http://www.zonta.org/Web/Programs/ISP/Let_Us_Learn_Madagascar_Home).

We are looking forward to hiking for education and to fight poverty together !

* If you don’t want to get the free Strava-account, we will work our way around that and make sure that your walks will also be on the scoreboard ;-)
